Has anyone wondered where Claire’s Casuals in Kaimuki went to? Did you know that it was owned and operated by our classmate, Claire Muraoka Nagata? Rest assured that Claire is still in business! She has a new store, All About Hawaii, which is located in Ward Center, near Borders bookstore. All About Hawaii offers island-inspired apparel for women, and also sells bags, baby blankets, locally-made cookies, salad dressing and other gift products.
How did Claire get to 1200 Ala Moana Boulevard? Boundless energy, a truly vivid imagination, a pioneering spirit and a lot of hard work. After graduating from KHS, Claire attended Kapiolani Community College for two years and got a secretarial degree. She worked for the State Department of Accounting and General Services for 13 years. She was married in 1972 and had her first son in 1975. She has two sons, Arlen and Gavin. Claire’s proudest moments involve her family. In 1982, she and her mother won a state bowling doubles tournament. Another proud moment was when her son Arlen became a senior pastor at the Christ Church in Kapolei where her family worships.
In 1984, Claire left her state job and went to work for Hawaiian Airlines. While working for Hawaiian Airlines, she started a business in medical transcription which she has only recently decided to end. In 1991, her entrepreneurial spirit took her away from Hawaiian Airlines and she started selling Biogime skin care products. She is the owner of the franchise for Hawai‘i. The products must be good because she still has loyal customers today.
In 2004, Claire opened a clothes boutique, Claire’s Casuals, in Kaimuki. She closed the shop and is now working more than full time at All About Hawaii.
Claire is now back living in Kaimuki where she is taking care of her parents. She bowls in a league in her “spare” time. She also loves to read. Claire thinks our classmates would be surprised to learn what an entrepreneur she is and how much she loves the Lord. Actually, some of us aren’t all that surprised.
Claire’s fondest memories from our KHS days are the activities she participated in with her club, The Debuteens!
Check out All About Hawaii at www.allabouthawaiistore.com. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drop by soon and say hello to Claire. Ladies, you can park your husband (or boyfriend) on the bench right outside the shop’s front door. Guys, you can turn your wives loose while you talk story with Claire.
